Mostyn Evans (Penzance)

Mostyn qualified as a solicitor in 1984, and has practised in Penzance throughout his career.  He was a partner in Cornish and Birtill and is a director of Cornish Venning Limited.  Mostyn is an experienced advocate, having started in criminal law, moving on to family law, General civil litigation including medical negligence and personal injury, employment disputes and mental health law.

Mostyn currently supervises the litigation department of Cornish Venning Limited, and carries a full caseload of disputes encompassing a wide range of matters.  These include employment disputes, personal injury, and commercial disputes. He is a member of the Children Panel and of the Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel, and has been for many years.

When not working, Mostyn also plays hard.  He holds a second degree black belt in karate, and will shortly be attempting to obtain his third degree.  He is also a keen dinghy sailor, competing in Open meetings on a regular basis in the RS800 fleet.

John Dunstan (St. Ives)

John was born and brought up in Chile. He qualified as a solicitor in 1974.

He started training as a solicitor in Cornwall and moved to London to complete his training. Once qualified he practised as a solicitor before moving to Cornwall to work in Camborne, where he remained for a number of years before joining Chellews in 1978.

John is an experienced solicitor having started in general civil litigation, including personal injury, employment disputes, landlord and tenant, family law and criminal law. He has in latter years dealt with property work and commercial work.

John has managed and supervised the St Ives office for a number of years and carries a full caseload of disputes covering a wide range of matters.

When not in the office John is a trustee of the Royal Cornwall Museum, The Clowance Trust and Camborne Rugby Club. When he has time he enjoys pursuing his interests in landscape photography and walking.

Tony Sheridan

Prue Willday B.A LL.B. (Penzance)

Prue has practised in Cornwall since 1992 and joined Borlase & Venning in 2002 specifically to develop the family department. She is a member of the Law society Children’s panel and Resolution –First for families.

Since coming to Cornwall Prue has worked in all areas of family law but in particular has developed a reputation for the law relating to children and domestic violence. Both Publicly and privately funded clients are represented.

Within the arena of the law relating to Children Prue represents Parents, Grandparents and Children with Care Proceedings and Private family law cases.

In the field of domestic violence Prue has an ongoing involvement with training the Police, Health Visitors and Housing Officers in Cornwall. She has been on the management committee of the Truro Women’s Refuge and was a founder member of the Domestic Violence forum. Prue accepts referrals from a wide range sources and represents both men and women who are caught up in abusive relationships.

Currently Prue is on the Board of the Lescudjack centre (formerly Surestart) Penzance.

Whilst concentrating on Children and Domestic Violence Prue covers all aspects of Family work.

Nicola Whitehead LLB (Hons) (St. Ives & Hayle)

Nicola qualified as a Solicitor in October 2003 and prior to relocating to Cornwall and joining Chellews Solicitors in August 2006, worked as a Solicitor in Northampton and London, specialising in all aspects of family law and general civil litigation including personal injury and employment disputes.

Nicola works as part of the litigation and family law team covering both the St Ives and Hayle offices and carries a full caseload incorporating both publicly and privately funded clients covering all aspects of family disputes such as divorce, separation, cohabitation difficulties, children related matters, financial disputes arising in relation to divorce/separation and also has been actively involved in dealing with same sex issues arising under the new Civil Partnership Act 2004.

Nicola also handles cases arising out of employment disputes.

Alison James F.Inst.L.Ex (Penzance)

Alison joined Borlase & Venning Solicitors in 2001, before the merger with Cornish & Birtill in January 2005. 

Alison is part of the litigation/family department and deals with both private and publicly funded matters; within the family department this covers a wide area of work including Divorce, Domestic Violence, Children (Private and Public Law), Harassment and Change of Name Deeds.

Alison also deals with the firm’s Legal Aid/Public Funding queries.
